VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the human resource planning, recruiting, selection, training and recognition of SAAFI volunteers.
Somali Advice and Forum Of Information (SAAFI) is a community-based organisation founded and led by British-Somali mothers from refugee background in Brent to support each other and their families for positive integration.
SAAFI was constituted in 2010 with the following objectives:
a) To promote the welfare and positive integration for refugees and migrants
b) To provide advice, information, support, and guidance for the communities mainly women and children who English is not their first language
c) To facilitate access to the support necessary for the integration of refugees and migrants particularly single parents and their children in Brent and UK .
d) To provide mentoring and coaching opportunities to young people by recruiting volunteers.
The Somali community in Brent is one of the youngest immigrant communities with the majority of arriving in the late 80s and early 90s.
Between 2001 and 2011 there was a 100% increase of Somali-born people living in Brent; growing from 3381 to 6855 individuals according to the 2011 census. The fastest growing language in Brent schools between 2009 and 2011 was Somali; there are currently 3086 students for whom Somali is their first language in Brent.
They face multiple challenges including isolation, lack of positive integration; high unemployment, teenage pregnancy and some of them attract gangs. Others are sitting at homes with no clear directions in overcrowded houses
The Volunteer Coordinator is directly responsible to the Program Manager.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The Volunteer Coordinator should:
Assess the human resource needs for the program as well as find volunteer placements for youth. Recruit and recommend the appointment of volunteers to roles that suit them.
Organise the orientation and the induction of volunteers.
Work with the program manager organising volunteer rosters and maintaining records.
Identify and organise the training and education opportunities for volunteers.
Ensure that volunteers are reimbursed for their approved out-of-pocket expenses.
Ensure all volunteers are recognised for their efforts.
Submit regular reports to the program manager.

Ideally a Volunteer Coordinator is someone who:
Can communicate effectively and has good interpersonal skills. Is positive and enthusiastic.
Is well organised.
Time Commitment Required
The estimated time commitment required as the Volunteer Coordinator of SAAFI is 10 hours per week.
